Programs
- We teach students from age 5 through adult. Youth Studio covers ages 5–18, Portfolio Plus is available for teens 13–18 who want to build toward a college portfolio or AP Art, and Adult Studio is open to anyone 18 and up. We also run workshops open to ages 10+ and community events for all ages.
- No prior experience is required. We work with students at every level — from children who have never taken a formal art class to teens building a BFA portfolio. Our first session is designed to assess where your student is and what they need to grow.
- This is not a craft class. Art Corner Studio teaches fine art fundamentals: observational drawing, color theory, composition, perspective, and medium-specific techniques. Students work on real artistic problems with real feedback — the same skills a student would encounter in a formal atelier or art school preparatory program. We take every student's creative development seriously, regardless of age.
- Studio sessions are small-group — typically 4–8 students — but instruction is individualized. Each student works on their own project and receives direct feedback from the instructor throughout the session. We do not run one curriculum for the whole class.
- Most students notice a visible difference in their work within the first 4–6 sessions. The speed of improvement depends on how often a student attends and how much they practice independently. Students who attend twice a week typically develop skills two to three times faster than once-a-week students. We track progress session by session and can show you examples from students at comparable starting points.
Enrollment
- The First Session ($28) is a 90-minute tryout. The instructor will work with your student to understand their current skills, interests, and goals. By the end, you'll have a clear picture of which program is the right fit and what growth will look like. There's no pressure to enroll — it's designed to answer your questions and give your student a real taste of the studio.
- Start with a First Session — you can schedule one directly on our website. After the First Session, if it's a good fit, we'll discuss the right package for your student's schedule and goals. There's no paperwork-heavy process. Most families are enrolled within a day of their first visit.
- That's exactly why we start with a $28 First Session — there's no commitment. If after the first session your student isn't excited to come back, you won't be charged anything beyond that. If you've started a package and your student wants to stop, we handle it on a case-by-case basis. We'd rather have a student who wants to be here than one who doesn't.
Scheduling
- Studio sessions are available Monday through Saturday. We offer morning, afternoon, and some evening slots depending on the program. When you schedule your First Session, you can see available times directly on the booking calendar.
- Most students attend one or two times per week. Two sessions per week produces noticeably faster skill development, but once a week is a solid pace for students with busy schedules. We work with your availability.
- We understand schedules change. We ask for 24 hours notice for cancellations so we can offer the slot to another student. Makeup sessions are available based on availability. Please contact us directly to reschedule.
Pricing
- Studio programs are offered in monthly packages, starting from $105/month for Youth and Adult Studio and $120/month for Portfolio Plus. Packages cover a set number of sessions per month. We also offer a $28 First Session tryout before any commitment. Contact us for the full pricing schedule.
- Studio sessions include all materials needed for that session — paper, pencils, paint, canvas, and specialty materials. You do not need to bring anything. For students building a longer-term portfolio or working with specialty materials, we can discuss options.
General
- Art Corner Studio is in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Our full address and parking information are on the Contact page. We are accessible by car and by local transit.
- Yes — Adult Studio is one of our three core programs. We teach adults at all skill levels, from absolute beginners who have never taken an art class to experienced artists looking to develop specific techniques. Adults work alongside other adult students in a focused, non-competitive environment.
- Nothing. All materials are provided for every session — paper, pencils, paint, canvas, charcoal, and any specialty materials needed for that day's work. If a student has a specific project they're working on or materials they prefer, they're welcome to bring those, but it's not required.
- Parents are welcome to drop off and pick up, but we ask that they not stay in the studio during sessions. Students tend to focus better and take more creative risks when they're working independently. You're welcome to see your student's work at pickup, and we're always happy to share progress updates.
